Check whether the signup challenge needs SMS
Proton describes CAPTCHA, email and SMS among its human-verification options. Which options appear depends on the signup case. Read the current form before purchasing reception; if an accessible non-phone method is offered, an SMS activation may not be needed for that step.
Keep human verification separate from account recovery
A signup challenge helps check the account-creation request. A recovery phone has another purpose: receiving a code when you later reset the password. Do not automatically keep a briefly allocated number as the recovery contact for a mailbox or file account you intend to use long term.
An SMS password reset does not restore all data
Proton explains that email or SMS recovery can reset a password but does not itself restore access to encrypted account data. Prepare the separate data-recovery options described in your Proton account. A code received through SmsVeo cannot act as a recovery phrase or encryption key.
